DIY
Trippy Planters
I have a
serious lack of décor in my apartment. People have come over and told me it
looks like a hospital because it’s so plain and sterile. My apartment needed
some spicing up, so I spiced it up the best way I know how: colors! Behind my
stove there is a window sill (I think I’ve gone 20 years without spelling the
word sill) that would be perfect for some succulents and a pop of color.
Supplies:
Can
Paint (4
colors)
Newspaper to
avoid messes
Floral foam
Fake succulents
Steps:
- Squirt a quarter sized drop of paint on the can
- On top of the first spot of paint, squirt a nickel sized drop of another color. I recommend opening all paints before-hand, so they are easily accessible. Do the same thing until you’ve used all the colors you desire. 3-4 is a classy number of colors, add more than that the planters would be a hot mess.
- Maneuver the can so the colors drip in a way that looks mesmerizing to you! I found the best way to do this was by sticking my hand in the can and twisting my wrist around. Yes, I got paint on my arms. Yes, it was worth it.
- Repeat steps 1-3 until the whole thing is covered.
- Place the cans on a flat surface to dry. They will get drippy, so every 10ish minutes flip the can over so that the color does not all run off. Some color has to run off for the paint to dry, but as it starts to dry the design becomes solidified.
- Cut the floral foam to fit into the planter and pop it in the can. Stick the stem of the succulent into the floral foam.
